Did you do well in our CSC exam decimal multiplication reviewer? I hope those exercises helped you remember and understand multiplying decimals even more. Our next reviewer is all about dividing decimals. Again, if you know your basic Math, specifically dividing manually, you won’t have a problem. Just in case you forgot all about it or was not into division (just like me) when you were still studying, the video below by Math Antics will be a great help. Watch it first before you proceed.

Okay, so now that you remembered how to divide manually (no calculators allowed, remember?), let us do a sample division of decimal;

6.9 ÷ 3

The first step is to rewrite it in long division form to help us find the quotient. Keynote, the first number (DIVIDEND) goes inside and the last number (DIVISOR) always goes outside like in the image below. Also, when we are dividing decimals, the decimal point goes directly above its corresponding column. Put it there immediately so you won’t get confused when you write the answer.

By watching the Math Antics video on the top of this page (and remembering our basic Math skills), we know that 6 divided by 3 is 2 and 9 divided by 3 is 3. Your long division process should look like this;

So, going back to our division example, 6.9 divided by 3 is 2.3.

6.9 ÷ 3 = 2.3
