What is Grammar?

Grammar is basically is the set of structural rules governing the composition of clauses, phrases, and words in any given natural language. You will know when a sentence does not have a correct grammar if it doesn’t sound or read right. For example;

“My dog just eated the flowers at you’re garden.”

  • The first error is, instead of “eated”, it should have been “ate”. ATE is the past tense of EAT.
  • Second, “flowers at”. It should be “flowers in” AT is when we are talking about something “at POINT”, in a location. IN is when we are talking about enclosed space.
  • The final error is “you’re”. YOU’RE is a contraction of YOU ARE. What should have been used in the sentence above is YOUR, second person possessive adjective, used to describe something as belonging to you.

So the sentence above should be written like;

“My dog just ate the flowers in your garden.”
